Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all of our friends and families!   We are quite surprised to see all the Christmas decoration and celebration going on here.   But to most people here,Christmas means party, good food and having fun.  There were so many people on the streets, vendors trying to make money,  loud music, cheers and fireworks until midnight last night (Christmas Eve).   But they are missing the true meaning of Christmas - a tiding of comfort and joy - Jesus Christ himself.

Both KunMing and GuiYang are very very crowded cities.   San and I grew up in Hong Kong, also a very dense city.  But we haven't seen anything like this in our lives!   The streets were so full of people, constantly shoulder to shoulder.   Every bus passed by was jammed with people inside, standing and sitting.   The streets are constantly packed with busy cars, motorcycles, bikes and people.   The society is extremely competitive.   The only way to survive and make a good living is to get ahead of others.   Every corner you turn is temptation to buy things, to dress nicely and to indulge in luxury.  Is there a place for the gospel  here?  How?

Here are some pictures from early this week.

In the center on my left is the orphanage director, along with two nannies. Pictures taken on 12/18 at the Civil Affair Office.

Bethany is drinking from zippy cup independently!

My Aunt at the hotel room with us.   She loves Bethany.

Faith, Mom and Pearl.

Just two years ago, we brought Pearl home on a trip like this.   Every time I look at her smile, I said to myself "it's worth it."

The boys, Faith and my aunt's grandson, Yang Yang.   The three boys got along so well right away like brothers.  They spent two nights together playing cards, pingpong and teaching each other English and Chinese.

The wonderful meal my aunt and her daughter, Xiao Ling, prepared for us.   My cousin Xiao Ling and I are meeting each other for the first time!  We are only three years apart in age.    I wonder how life would have been different if we had lived closer with each other.

Our sweet Bethany.

Wow what amazing photos of you and your extended family! What a great group and so wonderful to see all of you together! Loved seeing Bethany drinking from a sippy cup by herself. she is very smart and seems to be learning things very quickly. How lucky she is to have you all as her family. Loved to see your older boys bonding with their cousin.

Thank you for having such a sweet, servant's heart, to take on the challenges of one little blind girl. You are an amazing family. Can't help to think that God and his angels are all rejoicing in heaven right now, smiling from ear to ear, that His little Bethany is finally home where she belongs. God bless you all!

Kathryn's "Gotcha Day" was Christmas night 14 years ago. Reading your post and seeing your photos brings back wonderful memories that we cherish. The 14 years has flown by! We're waiting to hear about Ruth and Bethany's continued progress.
