Day 3

12/20   Thanks for your prayers.   We can feel your prayers, and God gives grace.  The toilet situation is getting much better. Bethany only wet her training pant once today, and she was able to tell us she needs to use the toilet most of the time.  She also slept through the night last night!   However, there are still other issues that quite concern us.  But we are not sure if they are related to transition/attachment, malnutrition/neglect, lack of physical stimulation, or other medical issues that are unknown to us. We don't know.  She is developmentally very delayed.   While she can talk very well, and most of the time can response/interact with us in a meaningful way, there are other times she would just ignore us, or unresponsive, and very easily get upset and emotionally disturbed, and would crouch and scream hysterically.    Physically, she has very little muscle strength.  (Her legs and arms are unproportionally thin and skinny)  I am very worried that there might be other major medical issues besides blindness, but I am grateful that San has been a great husband, father to Bethany, and an anchor for my soul.

San and I really appreciate your continuous prayers:

For Bethany - for her transition and adjustment, her health and development, and that there is no other major medical issue.
For San and me - for more patience and love for Bethany, faith and trust in God, wisdom and strength as we walk through this transition, more faith to trust that whatever will be in our future, we will never fall out of His sovereign grace and love.
For Sam - he is still coughing very badly and very tired most of the time.    We've tried 3 different type of over-the counter medicine, but none seems to work.  He has no other symptoms, so we are not sure what it is.
For all of us - we are physically and emotionally very tired.   Pearl has a little bit of congestion, so doesn't sleep well at night(so we don't neither).   Ben has been complaining sore throat.

In the midst of all these, we still saw God's providence and guiding hands.  My aunt, who I only met once before when I was very little, came to the hotel to look for us this morning, while we were eating breakfast.    We were caught by surprise by her visit (We were supposed to meet later this week).    It was so comforting to see such warm and familiar face and receive her warm love and kindness.  She got along with Bethany right away, and Bethany seemed to be much responsive with her.  She helped us translate what Bethany said, helped us understand Beth's dialect better and brought some cough medicine for Sam.       We will spend a day with her at her house tomorrow and if needed, she will take Sam to the doctor.    We are just so full of gratefulness.    I heard God said, "Be still, and know that I am God" Psalm 46:10.

P.S.  We are experiencing some technical difficulties uploading pictures to blogspot through email.  (We don't have direct access to blogspot in China.  The only way to submit a post is through email)  I am sure my personal computer administrator (my dear husband San!  :-))  will figure it out very soon.  We will upload pictures as soon as we figure that out.

What a blessing your aunt has been and much needed help and support. I bet San could use a good antibiotic, even profalactically, to help with his cold symptoms. Makes everything harder when you feel lousy! Glad she slept through the night. Must be hard for her to be away from the world she knew so well, different smells, places, etc. Praying for the transition to get a little better every day.

I just read your post and got caught up on your adventure. I am praying for all of you. For San & Pearl to get healthy quickly, for Bethany to feel safe & comfortable and for you to have peace & strength. It was very encouraging to read that your aunt surprised you with an early visit. Praying the visit goes well and San will not have to see a doctor. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures and to reading what is next in your daily adventures. Love & blessings from FL.

San and Betty, oh how we are praying for you and carrying you on our hearts.

Thank you, San, for being an anchor for Betty's soul. This is a very difficult time. So often it's nothing like the dreamy, smiley, soft music playing, gotcha day videos we have seen so many of.

The devil seeks to find a crack in your armour and the Lord is bringing you to your knees.

We are crying out to Him on your behalf...praying for rest, peace for your souls, restored health and a knitting of hearts with these beautiful girls that He has called you to.

We can't wait to see pics!

Love--
Tina

We're following your blog and keeping you in prayer. Remember that Bethany is aware of being taken from all that is familiar to her. While she can at times enjoy the love and attention you're giving to her, she is also grieving as she's separated from all that she's known for her entire life and is now with strangers in an unfamiliar place. When we got John, God showed me how his initial anger, disdain and rejection toward us and his total unawareness of what we are providing for him and the future life that he will have is like how we were toward God before having our eyes opened to God's love for us and the life we could have in him. It's also a picture of how we can still, in our sin, at times not understand and, therefore, not want what he knows will be good for us. Take heart - it will be a long road, but God will provide all that he's called you to do. And, he's not a stingy God, but a lavish God. What a blessing that your aunt is there to help you! We'll continue to pray for everyone.
Love,
Joan
