We met with the cleft team in Children's Hospital on 3/3. Everything went smoothly, and have decided to have the surgery on Friday 4/9. During the all day visit, Pearl met with ENT doctors, audiologist, dentist, orthodontist, genetic specialist, psychologist, speech therapist, and plastic surgeon. The visit lasted about 5 hours. I was very impressed with the doctors - they are all very caring, and very good with children. Pearl cried a little bit during the ENT doctor check-up. The entire time went smoothly. The hearing test with the audiologist has indicated mild hearing loss - something we have suspected for some time since we brought Pearl home. The doctor will put tubes into her ears during the surgery on 4/9, and that should help her hear better.
According to the surgeon, the surgery will take 6-8 hours (including ear tubes insert). Pearl will stay in the hospital for about 2 days. Recovery will take about two weeks. I am planning to "camp out" in the hospital that weekend. If you would, please pray for the surgery and her recovery.
